A team of Indian researchers has discovered a new butterfly species, Zographetus mathewi, in Kerala's Western Ghats. The skipper butterfly, belonging to the Hesperiidae family, was initially misidentified as Zographetus ogygia. However, close morphological inspection confirmed it as a new species. The discovery reflects the unexplored biodiversity richness of the Western Ghats.
The Western Ghats, a globally recognized biodiversity hotspot, continues to surprise scientists with new life forms. Zographetus mathewi, a newly discovered butterfly species, was found in the low-elevation forests of Kerala, adding to the genus Zographetus under the family Hesperiidae.
